Chicken Little???

So I was late to the bus today...don't worry, I made it. But when I got on the only seat that was open that wasn't in the very front, was between a group of guys. Not random guys, I knew them, but they're the uh...how do you say it? INAPPROPRIATE KIND? Uh yeah. So you could say that I wasn't really looking forward to the bus ride, cause it gets bad sometimes.

About five minutes into the ride...I hear Luke say, "And you know the time when he runs into the fence and says sorry? I love it!" so I turn to him and ask, "Chicken Little?" and he nods, and for the rest of the ride, me, Luke, Colin, and Tyler are quoting Chicken Little. It started out with like the well known quotes...and then it got like into really SPECIFIC territory of quotes. I must say I have never been prouder of those boys in my entire life. We were just shooting the quotes out SO fast and it was SO much fun.

Good bus ride. :]

Quick Quiz

So I'm doing terms right now (working ahead) and I was looking at the PowerPoints for AP and there's a link at the end of one that leads to a website where you take a quiz about how you pronounce things.

Here's the link:
http://www.blogthings.com/whatkindofamericanenglishdoyouspeakquiz/

And here are my results:
You Speak General American English!
60% General American English
30% Yankee
10% Dixie
0% Midwestern
0% Upper Midwestern

I clicked on the random quiz generator at the top (had to click it a few times...some are WEIRD) and got one that was like, "How Normal Are You?" or something and this is what I got:
You Are Fairly Normal
You scored 55% normal on this quiz
Like most people you are normal in some ways...But you aren't a completely normal person. You're a little weird too!

Why You Are Normal:You think fishnet stockings are trashy
You'd rather have rats than cockroaches in your home
You rather be screwed over than screw someone else over
You prefer a good meal to a good nap
You prefer fiction to non fiction

Why You Aren't Normal:You find the Chicken Dance to be the more embarrassing dance
You eat the cupcake first
You would rather be tan than pale
You prefer flat potato chips

...how about love?

I never made a New Year's Resolution...I guess I'm gonna now. There's a song, called "Seasons of Love", it's from the Broadway show/movie Rent. Basically, it talks about the different ways of how we can measure a year. We measure it in minutes...in days...in grades...in cups of coffee...that sort of thing. Well what about love? Measuring a year in love...I guess that's my Resolution. Not the measuring...the loving. I dunno, here's the lyrics and I'll put a link at the bottom of the post. It's really good.

"Seasons of Love"
Five hundrend twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundrend twenty five thousand moments so dear
Five hundrend twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year

In daylight, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee,
In inches, in miles
In laughter in strife,
In Five hundrend twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in the life

(Chorus)
How about Love
how about love
how about love
measure in love
seasons of love
seasons of love

Five hundrend twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundrend twenty five thousand journeys to plan
Five hundrend twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life of a woman or a man

In truth that she learned or in times that he cried
In the bridges he burned or the way that she died
It's time now to sing out though the story never ends
Let's celebrate remember a year in the life of friends

(Chorus)

Judgement and Love

I just had an AMAZING conversation with my dad.

I had finished practicing for jazz band (I PRACTICED! ;D) and he was sitting at the dinner table reading a book and I had a question about the Bible, so I asked if I could interrupt, he said sure, and an hour and a half later I'm writing about it on my blog.

I asked/we talked about bunches of things. One of the bigger topics was hell, and what Jesus did there for the three days, and relating that to a passage where Jesus talks to his disciples about Lazareth (not the Lazareth that Jesus brought back to life...), the beggar who lived outside a rich man's house, got his wounds licked by dogs, and the rich man never showed any compassion towards him or helped him in any way. Then Jesus goes on to describe what happened when both died. The poor man went to "Abraham's bussom", and the rich man went to hell, asked for a drink of water...and the story continues. That's like the really short version. If you wanna read the whole thing then go to the gospel of Luke.

So ANYWAY...somewhere in that passage, Jesus talks about how he led the captives out of captivity...which could be connected to when Jesus died and there was an earthquake and all the dead souls rose up from their graves and walked the streets. The connection could be made because when Jesus tells the 'story' about Lazareth...it doesn't start it by saying that "This is a story" or "This is a parable" like he does with all his other parables, so it makes you wonder if it actually happened. But he tells this story BEFORE he dies...my dad explained it really well, I'm not sure if it's making much sense here, but basically...the Bible is amazing and I'm really starting to get into thinking about this stuff.

Ok, moving on to what I really wanted to post about---judgement and love.

I think a lot of times we get this idea in our heads that God is this big judge...who sits on His throne and says, "Well, you did good, I like you, welcome to heaven! Eh...well, don't like you, you can go to hell." I know that sounds really harsh, but I'm just trying to get the point/general idea across. But what dad and I talked about...is that God isn't like that at all, He can't do that. Think about it this way...imagine if you were a parent and you had five children, and God told you to pick three to go to hell and pick two that will get to go to heaven. Could you do it? I mean REALLY think about it...and if you can't visualize yourself as a parent...think about family...or two people that you honestly really love.

Now pick one that has to go to hell...

...go ahead, think about it for a minute, like legit take some time and think. Who would you pick?

...
...
...
...

I know for myself, I would just be so overwhelmed that I'd get to the point of, "God...could I take their place? Let me be the one that suffers."

And that's exactly what He did for us.

...think about it.

The other big topic was love. You've heard the statement before, "There's nothing you can do that will make God love you any less or any more". I could tell that to bunches of people, but THINK about it. Haha, that's my phrase of the night. The part that gets me...is the "there's nothing you can do that will make God love you more". It has ALWAYS been for me, that I've felt like I've needed to earn love, or maybe replace the word 'love' with 'acceptance'. Maybe not with family...but I definitely think better of myself when I can brag about grades, or the music accomplishments I've achieved.

I've always felt like in order to gain a person's acceptance, I need to do something, and not just do something...I need to do it WELL.

For example...Mr. O. I look up to the man, so of course I want his approval and acceptance. How do I work to achieve that? I play saxophone. But not only do I need to PLAY...I need to play well, in fact, I need to be a pretty darn good player to get a genuine compliment from him.

I think that's how I think about God sometimes too...like I need to do THIS for you God, and I'll do it well and I'll make you so proud and so happy and you'll love me so much!!

But then He says...Rachel...I'm already proud of you. You already make me happy. And I have always loved you so much. You don't need to perform for me. Just you is enough.

...and hearing that...makes me want to cry, makes my heart want to burst, it makes me wanna go dance for Him. It makes me want to PRAISE and WORSHIP and ADORE.

Oopsies

In the middle of doing lots of math homework right now, which was made even longer because I have this amazing ability of NOT READING THE INSTRUCTIONS. Yeah...it said odd, not all...oopsies. So anyway, I had to interrupt the amazing math homework cause I'm listening to B101 and I heard a song that I really liked and I figured I'd post the lyrics cause I need a break...so here it is!!!

"Hero" by Enrique Iglesias
Would you dance
if I asked you to dance?
Would you run
and never look back?
Would you cry
if you saw me cry?
And would you save my soul, tonight?

Would you tremble
if I touched your lips?
Would you laugh?
Oh please tell me this.
Now would you die
for the one you loved?
Hold me in your arms, tonight.

I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.

Would you swear
that you'll always be mine?
Or would you lie?
Would you run and hide?
Am I in too deep?
Have I lost my mind?
I don't care...You're here tonight.

I can be your hero, baby.
I can kiss away the pain.
I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.
